Autumn 2 2025

Week beginning 10th November 2025

Year 5 blog

We have started a new music scheme. We learned a Viking song which has absolutely stuck in our heads! We could sing with confidence, as we channelled our inner Vikings!

On Friday, we had odd socks day to represent the fact that everyone is equal for anti bullying week.
We also had a cake sale organised by 7 of our class to raise money for the Convent. We can't wait to tell you how much we raised!

In PE, we got rained off on Friday but we watched professionals play netball. We were astonished about how quickly the ball was passed and how quickly the players were moving. This has inspired us for our lesson on Tuesday.

In Maths we have been looking at how place value holders help us with mental addition and subtraction of decimals. Once we choose our strategy, it is actually really easy!

In REACH time, we have started Operation Christmas which is where we start getting ready for all things Christmas! We have started planning the shoe box appeal AND we have started preparing for our Christmas Carol concert.

On Tuesday, we commemorated Remembrance in the Hall; lead by Year 6 and Reception. It is always a very solemn occasion to remember all those who died in the wars.

This week was the first week back of Autumn 2 and it was Stroud Literacy festival! We had an Author visit; Sian Hughes, who did some workshops with us. Her books are about a girl who is a robber who hired a cat to help her. The title of the book was "Wanted: Cat!"

As part of Stroud Literacy lesson, we had a live workshop with Louie Stowell who wrote books about Loki. She guided us about how she illustrated her books and we got to draw Loki too! We also did some acting about what it would be like for Loki coming to Earth as a kid instead of an Ancient Norse God.

In gardening, we had a huge leaf collecting push as we need them for the summer holidays and to protect the beds over the winter. We split into teams and collected leaves from all around the school! We filled 13 bags! Another group did some weeding at the front of the school so it can keep looking really smart!

We have been preparing for 11th November Remembrance as well. We hope you will join us for the Remembrance ceremony.

See you next week for another jam packed week!
