Spring Term 1 2026

Week beginning the 5th January 2026

The children have had a fantastic start to the new term and have settled beautifully back into Year 1 after the Christmas holidays. It has been lovely to see them return refreshed, enthusiastic, and ready for learning. Their positive attitude has really shone through in every lesson. This week in History, we have been learning about toys from the past. The children created brilliant posters describing how they could tell whether a toy was old or new, using clues such as materials, colours, and how the toys move.

On Friday, the classroom was transformed into our very own toy museum. The children brought in toys from home and combined them with some of our older school toys to create displays. They were so proud to share their collections, and their excitement grew even more when Reception came to visit and explore the museum. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to talk confidently about their toys and the history behind them.

In RE, we have been learning about Our Lady Mary and why she is so important to many people around the world. We explored how Mary is honoured in different countries and discussed what a pilgrimage is. The children learned about traditions such as saying the rosary, lighting candles, and offering flowers. To celebrate Mary, the children made their own beautiful paper flowers and designed a special crown for Mary, thinking carefully about colours, patterns, and symbols that would show love and respect.
