Week beginning the 31st April 2025
In our RE this week we delved into the story of the crucifixion, exploring the significance of Jesus dying on the cross. To deepen our understanding, we created our own alfombras, colourful carpets traditionally made during Holy Week in various cultures. This hands-on activity allowed us to learn about different ways people celebrate Good Friday around the world, enriching our appreciation of global traditions.
Our focus in English was on the delightful tale of the Gingerbread Man. We examined storybooks with repeated phrasing, which helped us recognize patterns and improve our reading skills. To make the story come alive, we acted out the adventures of the Gingerbread Man, engaging in role-play to enhance our memory and comprehension of the narrative.
In Design and technology this week, we applied our knowledge of freestanding structures and joints to create 'Little Bear's Chair.' This project challenged us to think critically about stability and design, as we constructed sturdy chairs for our little bear. Through this activity, we developed practical skills and our resilience when a problem occurred overcoming them through critical thinking.
Week beginning the 24th March 2025
In English, we have been focusing on instruction text writing. The children have been working on a shared write about how to grow a bean. They have learned to sequence their instructions clearly and use imperative verbs to guide the reader through each step of the process.
In Maths, we have been recapping position and direction. The children have been practicing how to describe the position of objects and give directions. We have also introduced different kinds of turns, including quarter turns, half turns, and three-quarter turns.
Our outdoor learning sessions have been filled with creativity and exploration. With spring approaching, the children came up with the idea to make bug homes. They have been busy building these homes, thinking about the best materials and locations to attract different types of bugs. This hands-on activity has sparked their curiosity about the natural world and the creatures that inhabit it.
In Computing, we have been exploring the work of Henri Matisse, focusing on his spiral designs. The children have been using different shapes to create their own spiral patterns, experimenting with color and form. This activity has not only introduced them to a famous artist but also helped them develop their digital art skills.
